The St. Louis Cardinals squeaked out a 2-1 win over the Chicago Cubs in Game 2 of their weekend series at Busch Stadium.

St. Louis won as a -176 home favorite while the final score played under the 7-run total.

Cardinals shortstop Brendan Ryan singled in Mark DeRosa for the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth. Starting pitcher Chris Carpenter went eight innings, allowing just eight hits.

Cubs starter Ryan Dempster lasted eight innings, giving up one run on eight hits. Reliever Carlos Marmol gave up the game-winning run after allowing three hits in the ninth.
