Twins pound Royals, force playoff with Tigers

Jason Kubel was 3-for-4 with two dingers and six runs batted in to lead the Minnesota Twins over the Kansas City Royals 13-4 on Sunday.

Minnesota won as -220 home favorites, while the teams played OVER the 9.5-run total set by sportsbooks.

Winning pitcher Carl Pavano allowed four runs over 5 2-3 innings for the Twins, who now meet the Detroit Tigers in a one-game playoff for the AL Central title on Tuesday night at the Metrodome.

Alberto Callaspo went 2-for-3 with a run batted in for Kansas City, while Luke Hochevar was ripped for seven runs over three innings to take the loss for the Royals.
