Desmond finished 2-for-4 with two runs batted in for the Nationals, as Tyler Clippard picked up the win in relief of starter J.D. Martin for Washington.
Angel Pagan was 3-for-5 with a run batted in for New York, while Sean Green took the loss after allowing the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth inning for the Mets.
