Memphis Falls 56-17 to Cougars - Recap
Michael Hayes ran for 123 yards as Houston handled Memphis by a score of 56-17 on Saturday at Liberty Bowl.
Houston won and also put money in the pockets of their supporters by covering the 14-point spread as favorites. Totals bettors, meanwhile, saw the game go OVER the closing number of 59.5.
David Piland completed 20 of 23 pass attempts for 292 yards for the Cougars in the win. He did not throw an interception in the game.
Gregory Ray rushed for 176 yards for Memphis, while Jerrell Rhodes added 26 yards. Cannon Smith threw for 65 yards for the Tigers, while receivers Marcus Rucker and Curtis Johnson had 65 and 18 yards respectively.
Memphis was outgained by Houston 651-321 yards in Saturday's match, while the important battle of first downs was won 37-15 by the Cougars.
The time of possession battle favored Houston as their offense was on the field for 30:48, longer than the 29:12 of their opponents.
Houston looks to continue their winning ways next game with a battle against Central Florida. Memphis will aim to get back on the winning track vs Tennessee.
