Texas El Paso Defeats East Carolina 22-17 - Recap
Joe Banyard tore up the turf for 140 rushing yards on Saturday to lead the Miners to a 22-17 win over the Pirates at Sun Bowl.
The Miners earned a straight-up victory but suffered an ATS defeat in failing to cover the 6-point spread. Over-Under bettors who played UNDER the total of 57.5 were rewarded with a winning wager.
Carson Meger completed 18 of 27 pass attempts for 155 yards for the Miners in the win. He did not throw an interception in the game.
Torrance Hunt rushed for 49 yards for East Carolina, while Michael Dobson added 43 yards. Dominique Davis threw for 133 yards for the Pirates, while receivers Danny Webster and Justin Hardy had 48 and 30 yards respectively.
East Carolina lost the offensive yardage battle to Texas El Paso 429-254 yards in Saturday's game. Texas El Paso had more first downs as that total ended up 23-15.
The time of possession battle favored Texas El Paso as their offense was on the field for 31:58, longer than the 28:02 of their opponents.
Next game, Texas El Paso takes its act home to face Tulsa looking for another win. For East Carolina, they head home to face Central Florida.
