Northwestern vs Minnesota Wrap - Northwestern Wins 29-28
Dan Persa threw for 309 yards to lead the Wildcats over Minnesota 29-28 on Saturday in Week 5 action at TCF Bank Stadium.
Northwestern did not, however, defeat the Golden Gophers against the spread, which closed at 4.5 at most sportsbooks. Totals bettors, meanwhile, saw the game go OVER the closing number of 54.5.
Dan Persa rushed for 99 yards, while Mike Trumpy added 53 yards in the win. Jeremy Ebert and Tony Jones added 105 and 68 receiving yards respectively.
DeLeon Eskridge rushed for 119 yards for Minnesota, while Duane Bennett added 29 yards. Adam Weber threw for 194 yards for the Golden Gophers, while receivers Eric Lair and Da'Jon McKnight had 75 and 50 yards respectively.
Minnesota lost the offensive yardage battle to Northwestern 486-367 yards in Saturday's game. Northwestern had more first downs as that total ended up 28-19.
The time of possession battle favored Minnesota as their offense was on the field for 30:19, longer than the 29:41 of their opponents.
Next game, Northwestern takes its act home to face Purdue looking for another win. For Minnesota, they head on the road to face Wisconsin.
