Brad Richards, Sean Avery, Brandon Dubinsky, Ryan Callahan, and Dan Girardi each scored for the Rangers in the victory. Avery opened the scoring for New York, finding the back of the net at 9:43 of the first period. The goal was assisted by Jeff Woywitka.

Henrik Lundqvist stopped 34 of 35 Carolina shots in the victory.

Alexei Ponikarovsky scored for the Hurricanes, finding the net behind Henrik Lundqvist.

Cam Ward stopped 35 of 40 shots for the Hurricanes, but it wasn't enough to earn the victory.

On the power play, New York went 1-for-3, while the Hurricanes were 0-for-2 with the man advantage.

Carolina lost the shots on goal battle to New York by a margin of 40-35.
