Michal Neuvirth turned in a 23-save effort for the Capitals.
Bryan Little (2), Andrew Ladd, and Rich Peverley scored for the Thrashers, finding the net behind Michal Neuvirth.
Chris Mason stopped 12 of 16 shots for the Thrashers, but it wasn't enough to earn the victory.
On the power play, Washington went 1-for-3, while the Thrashers were 1-for-2 with the man advantage.
Atlanta lost the shots on goal battle to Washington by a margin of 33-27.
Next game, Washington takes its act home to face Buffalo looking for another win. For Atlanta, they head home to face Florida.
