The battle between the Rangers and Hurricanes didn’t turn out to be much of a battle at all as Carolina was handed a 5-1 defeat on Saturday at Madison Square Garden.

Derek Stepan (3) and Carl Hagelin (2) each scored for the Rangers in the victory. Hagelin opened the scoring for New York, finding the back of the net at 8:26 of the first period. The goal was assisted by Benoit Pouliot and Brad Richards.

Justin Peters stopped 33 of 38 shots for the Hurricanes, but it wasn't enough to earn the victory.
On the power play, New York went 1-for-4, while the Hurricanes were 1-for-3 with the man advantage.
New York outshot Carolina 38-28 in the game.
Next game, New York takes its act home to face Anaheim looking for another win. For Carolina, they head home to face Philadelphia.
