Verlander, Tigers fend off Braves

Justin Verlander fanned 11 batters as the Detroit Tigers earned a close 2-1 victory over the Atlanta Braves Saturday at Turner Field.

Detroit won the game as -160 favorites, while the final score fell UNDER the posted over/under (9.5).

Carlos Guillen homered and finished 2-for-3 at the plate for the Tigers. Justin Verlander pitched a four-hitter through seven innings for his ninth win, and Todd Jones pitched a scoreless ninth for the save.

Chipper Jones hit a solo home run for the only Braves run, as they lost their fourth straight overall. Kyle Davies allowed just three hits and two runs over 6 1-3 innings to suffer the loss.
