Carpenter pitches Cardinals to win
Chris Carpenter allowed only two runs over nine innings Saturday as the St. Louis Cardinals topped the Chicago Cubs by a 5-2 score.

Carpenter gave up eight hits and struck out eight on the day. Cubs starter Jerome Williams allowed three runs on four hits over six innings, and fanned seven.
Albert Pujols hit a two-run home run for St. Louis in the third inning. Mike Mahoney, Abraham Nunez, and John Rodriguez also drove in runs for the Cardinals in the win.
