Tigers hold off Nationals

The Detroit Tigers nearly blew an eight run lead, but held on for a 9-8 win over the Washington Nationals Monday night at RFK Stadium.

Detroit won the game as –150 favorites on the road, and the 17 runs sailed OVER the posted over/under (9.5).

Carlos Guillen homered and finished 3-for-4 with three RBI to pace the Tigers. Mike Maroth improved to (5-2) with the win, allowing six hits and five runs over five innings.

Cristian Guzman drove in two runs and finished 3-for-5 at the plate for the Nationals. Matt Chico was tagged for eight runs over four innings in the loss.
