Pirates take rubber match

The Pittsburgh Pirates got out to a five-run lead and held on for a 7-5 win in the rubber match against the Washington Nationals Thursday afternoon at PNC Park.

Pittsburgh won the game as -135 favorites, and the 12 runs made it OVER the posted over/under (9).

Ryan Doumit belted a two-run homer and finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs for the Pirates. Tom Gorzelanny tossed 5 2-3 innings for the win, allowing three runs on six hits.

Cristian Guzman went 3-for-5 at the plate for the Nationals, and Jason Bergmann gave up six runs in 4 2-3 innings in suffering the loss.
