Nationals hold off Padres

Josh Willingham belted a three-run homer in lifting the Washington Nationals to a 5-3 win over the San Diego Padres Friday night in the opener of a three-game set at Petco Park.

The Nationals won the game as +120 underdogs, while the eight runs made it OVER the posted over/under (7.5) set by sportsbooks.

John Lannan gave up two runs off seven hits over seven innings in picking up the win.

Clayton Richard allowed four runs on four hits over seven innings in the Padres loss.
