Red Sox take opener from D-Rays
David Ortiz belted his club-record 54th home run as the Boston Red Sox defeated the Tampa Bay Devil Rays 5-1 Tuesday night in the opener of a short two-game set.
Boston won the game at home as -200 favorites and the final score fell UNDER the posted over/under (9.5).
Ortiz finished with three hits in four trips to the plate and Eric Hinske hit an RBI double to finish 1-4 at the plate in the win.
Greg Norton collected two hits in three trips to the plate with one RBI in the loss for the last-place Devil Rays.
Curt Schilling pitched seven innings for the win, giving up one run off six hits to improve to 15-7 overall.
Jason Hammel fell to 0-5 on the season, allowing five runs off nine hits in just four innings of work.
