David Ortiz launched a three-run homer in helping the Boston Red Sox defeat the Oakland A's 8-5 Thursday, and earned a split of the four-game set at Fenway Park.
Boston won the game as -400 favorites, while the 13 runs made it OVER the posted over/under (9).
Jason Varitek went 3-for-4 at the plate and drove in three runs for the Red Sox. Manny Delcarmen got the win in relief, and Jonathan Papelbon closed out the game for his 26th save.
Tommy Everidge and Rajai Davis drove in a pair of runs each for the A's. Craig Breslow allowed the winning run and suffered the loss in relief.
