The Detroit Tigers grabbed the opener of a four-game series by defeating the Tampa Bay Rays 6-2 Friday night at Comerica Park.

Gerald Laird went 2-for-3 with two runs batted in for the Tigers. Rick Porcello tossed 5 2-3 innings for the win, allowing just four hits and one run.
