Late rally leads A’s over Rangers

Dan Johnson, Eric Chavez, and Jason Kendall drove in runs in an eighth-inning rally Saturday to give the Oakland A’s a 7-6 win over the Texas Rangers.

The A’s pulled out the victory as big -230 home favorites in this contest. The combined score went OVER the game’s posted total (9).

A’s starter Barry Zito was roughed up for five runs on seven hits over six innings, and picked up five strikeouts.

R.A. Dickey gave up three runs on four hits in 5 2-3 innings of work for the Rangers, walking five on the day.

Chavez and Johnson each drove in two runs for Oakland. Scott Hatteberg and Jay Payton also collected RBI for the Athletics.

Mark Teixeira hit a two-run home run for Texas in the first inning, and picked up four RBI in the game. Michael Young drove in two for the Rangers.
