Thomas blast steers A's past Orioles
Frank Thomas hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning to lead the Oakland Athletics past the Baltimore Orioles 5-4 at McAfee Coliseum on Friday.
The A's were favored to win at home at -135, while the nine runs scored were just OVER the posted total of 8.5.
Thomas and Mark Ellis drove in two runs each to lead the Oakland offense. Starter Joe Blanton allowed seven hits and four runs, and Brad Halsey got the win in relief, improving to 4-4. Justin Duchscherer earned his seventh save for the A's.
Erik Bedard gave up three runs on six hits in six innings of work, but Todd Williams came on to take the loss to fall to 2-4. Melvin Mora had three hits, including his 14th homer of the season, and two RBIs for the Orioles in a losing cause.
