Pirates take opener from Mariners
The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Seattle Mariners 5-3 Tuesday night in the opener of a three-game set at Safeco Field.
Pittsburgh won the game as +120 underdogs, while the eight runs fell just UNDER the posted over/under (8.5).
Freddy Sanchez had two hits in five trips to the plate and collected one RBI for the Pirates. Tom Gorezelanny allowed eight hits and two runs over seven innings for the win, and Shawn Chacon closed out the game with his first save.
Richie Sexson homered and finished 2-for-4 at the plate for the Mariners. Miguel Batista surrendered four runs on six hits over 5 1-3 innings on the hill.
