Rays fend off Rangers

The Tampa Bay Rays gave up three runs in the eighth inning, but held on for a 5-3 victory over the Texas Rangers Friday night in Game 1 of a three-game series at Tropicana Field.

Tampa Bay won the game as -180 favorites, while the eight runs went UNDER the posted over/under (9).

Ben Zobrist went 2-for-3 at the plate with a two-run homer for the Rays. Scott Kazmir tossed the win, allowing five hits and three runs over 7 1-3 innings of work.

Taylor Teagarden went deep in a losing effort for the Rangers. Dustin Nippert gave up all five runs in suffering his second defeat.
