Hokies Down Duke 44-7 - Match Report
The battle between the Hokies and Blue Devils didn’t turn out to be much of a battle at all as Duke was handed a 44-7 defeat on Saturday at Lane Stadium.
The Hokies were a 27-point favorite in the win, and managed to turn a profit for their supporters. The combined score dipped UNDER the total, which closed at 63.5.
Tyrod Taylor completed 13 of 17 pass attempts for 280 yards for the Hokies in the win. He did not throw an interception in the game.
Brandon Connette rushed for 43 yards for Duke, while Jay Hollingsworth added 26 yards. Sean Renfree threw for 116 yards for the Blue Devils, while receivers Conner Vernon and Brandon Braxton had 44 and 29 yards respectively.
Duke lost the offensive yardage battle to Virginia Tech 491-208 yards in Saturday's game. Virginia Tech had more first downs as that total ended up 19-10.
The time of possession battle favored Virginia Tech as their offense was on the field for 32:24, longer than the 27:36 of their opponents.
Virginia Tech looks to continue their winning ways next game with a battle against Georgia Tech. Duke will aim to get back on the winning track at Navy.
