BYU Defeats Washington 23-17 - Recap
BYU earned a 23-17 victory over Washington on Saturday in Week 1 action at LaVell Edwards Stadium.
BYU won and also put money in the pockets of their supporters by covering the 1.5-point spread as underdogs. Totals bettors, meanwhile, saw the game go UNDER the closing number of 57.5.
Jake Heaps completed 13 of 23 pass attempts for 131 yards for the Cougars in the win. He did not throw an interception in the game.
Chris Polk rushed for 92 yards for Washington, while Jesse Callier added 40 yards. Jake Locker threw for 266 yards for the Huskies, while receivers Jermaine Kearse and Devin Aguilar had 108 and 57 yards respectively.
BYU outgained Washington 408-394 yards in the game, while the battle of first downs was won 23-20 by the Cougars.
Washington lost the time of possession battle 34:07/25:53, leaving their defense on the field more than they wanted.
Next game, BYU takes its act on the road to face Air Force looking for another win. For Washington, they head home to face Syracuse.
