Gamecocks blank Bulldogs in opener
Syvelle Newton tossed a TD strike to Cory Boyd on Thursday night as the South Carolina Gamecocks blanked the Mississippi State Bulldogs 15-0 in the season opener for both teams.
The Gamecocks managed to cover the 7-point spread on the road in their Week 1 contest. The combined score fell UNDER the night's posted total (40).
Blake Mitchell went 12-of-22 for 91 yards passing for South Carolina in the win, with one interception. Newton had three catches for 21 yards to go along with the TD pass. Ryan Succop booted three field goals.
For the Bulldogs, quarterback Tray Rutland completed 6-of-15 pass attempts for just 63 yards, and was picked off twice.
