Iowa Defeats Northern Illinois 18-17 - Recap
Damon Bullock scampered through the Northern Illinois defense for 150 yards as Iowa handed the Huskies a 18-17 defeat on Saturday at Soldier Field.
Iowa did not, however, defeat the Huskies against the spread, which closed at 8 at most sportsbooks. Totals bettors, meanwhile, saw the game go UNDER the closing number of 47.5.
James Vandenberg completed 21 of 33 pass attempts for 129 yards for the Hawkeyes in the win. He did not throw an interception in the game.
Jordan Lynch rushed for 119 yards for Northern Illinois, while Leighton Settle added 33 yards. Jordan Lynch threw for 54 yards for the Huskies, while receivers Martel Moore and Leighton Settle had 39 and 14 yards respectively.
Northern Illinois was outgained by Iowa 268-201 yards in Saturday's match, while the important battle of first downs was won 23-12 by the Hawkeyes.
The time of possession battle favored Iowa as their offense was on the field for 38:42, longer than the 21:18 of their opponents.
Iowa looks to continue their winning ways next game with a battle against Iowa State. Northern Illinois will aim to get back on the winning track vs Tennessee-Martin.
