Tigers win Independence Bowl with amazing comeback

The Missouri Tigers were outscored 21-0 in the first-quarter, but roared back to defeat the South Carolina Gamecocks 38-31 Friday in a wild affair in the Independence Bowl.

South Carolina came into the game as 3.5-point favorite’s and in the loss, could not make good on covering the spread. The games combined 69 points went well OVER the games posted total (51).

Tigers QB Brad Smith was the story in Louisiana where he rushed for three touchdowns and ran for an amazing 145 yards along with going 21-for-37 and 281 yards in the title game. Chase Coffman scored a TD and caught eight passes for 100 yards.

Blake Mitchell threw two touchdowns and went 20–for-38 and gained 266 yards, while Mike Davis rushed for two touchdowns and 125 yards in the loss. Meanwhile, freshman sensation Sidney Rice was stellar catching 12 passes for 192 yards and scored the game’s first TD.
