Steelers edge Chargers
Jeff Reed kicked a 40-yard field goal in the dying seconds of the fourth quarter Monday night to give the Pittsburgh Steelers a 24-22 win over the San Diego Chargers.
The Steelers were a 3-point underdog in the game. The combined score was just UNDER the posted over/under total (46.5).
Ben Roethlisberger completed 17-of-26 passes for 225 yards with a touchdown through the air and on the ground for Pittsburgh. Roethlisberger’s health is a concern after the Steelers’ quarterback left the game late in the fourth quarter with an apparent knee injury.
Jerome Bettis carried the rushing load for Pittsburgh in his first game of the season, rushing for 54 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries.
Drew Brees completed 20-of-35 passes for 219 yards with a touchdown and an interception for San Diego. LaDainian Tomlinson rushed for 62 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries.
