The battle between the Hurricanes and Senators didn’t turn out to be much of a battle at all as Ottawa was handed a 7-1 defeat on Wednesday at RBC Center.

Carolina got goals from Eric Staal (3), Chad LaRose (2), Tim Gleason, and Tuomo Ruutu in the victory. Gleason opened the scoring at 4:25 of the first period.

Ottawa got a goal from Daniel Alfredsson in the loss, but it wasn't enough.

Brian Elliott stopped 12 of 16 shots for the Senators, but it wasn't enough to earn the victory.

On the power play, Carolina went 2-for-6, while the Senators were 1-for-3 with the man advantage.

Ottawa lost the shots on goal battle to Carolina by a margin of 28-24.

Carolina looks to continue their winning ways next game with a battle against the Penguins. The Senators will aim to get back on the winning track at St. Louis.
