San Jose needed a shootout to earn a 3-2 victory over Los Angeles on Wednesday in NHL action at SAP Center.

The win was clinched by Joe Thornton, who beat Ben Scrivens in a shootout to gain the extra point in the standings for San Jose. San Jose got goals from Joe Thornton and Joe Pavelski in the victory. Pavelski opened the scoring at 2:43 of the second period.
Antti Niemi turned in a 38-save effort for the Sharks.
Jeff Carter and Drew Doughty scored for the Kings, finding the net behind Antti Niemi.
Ben Scrivens stopped 38 of 40 shots for the Kings, but it wasn't enough to earn the victory.
On the power play, San Jose went 0-for-3, while the Kings were 0-for-4 with the man advantage.
Next game, San Jose takes its act home to face St. Louis looking for another win. For Los Angeles, they head home to face Calgary.
