Semyon Varlamov stopped 41 of 45 shots for the Avalanche, but it wasn't enough to earn the victory.
On the power play, San Jose went 2-for-4, while the Avalanche were 1-for-3 with the man advantage.
San Jose outshot Colorado 45-33 in the game.
San Jose looks to continue their winning ways next game with a battle against the Coyotes. The Avalanche will aim to get back on the winning track at Chicago.
