Curtis McElhinney stopped 24 of 26 shots for the Blue Jackets, but it wasn't enough to earn the victory.
On the power play, Pittsburgh went 0-for-3, while the Blue Jackets were 0-for-2 with the man advantage.
Pittsburgh outshot Columbus 27-19 in the game.
Next game, Pittsburgh takes its act on the road to face New York looking for another win. For Columbus, they head home to face Ottawa.
