Super Bowl Betting Recap

Super Bowl XLIV is in the books, the New Orleans Saints have their first Super Bowl title and thousands of underdog bettors are happy this morning.

The sportsbooks had a productive Super Sunday after the Colts flopped as 4.5-point favorites. Most square bettors went with the Colts and their cash slipped through their hands like the football slipped through the hands of the Colts’ wide receivers. But there were also a lot of New Orleans moneyline bettors who got paid out big!

Total bettors also took quite a beating with 70% of bettors at bodog dropping their cash on the OVER. With the total set at 56.5 the 31-17 final score fell UNDER the total by 8.5 points.

Over at Bovada futures odds for Super Bowl XLV are already available. The favorite isn’t who you might think though? The Saints just took home their first Vince Lombardi Trophy so they should be the favorites for next season right? Wrong. The NFL oddsmakers are actually listing the defeated Colts as next year’s favorites at +600.

Indianapolis will have Peyton Manning back to run the offense and if they want to load up on any free agents they’ll get the chance. With the present CBA running out there’s a really good chance the upcoming season will be a no salary cap season. Will they lead to rampant spending like in Major League Baseball? We’ll have to wait and see.

So, the Saints must follow the Colts on the futures odds list right? Wrong again. Following Indy on the odds is San Diego at +800. The big change in San Diego is the expected departure of LaDainian Tomlinson. He’s lost a step though and the transition to Darren Sproles as starting back could actually improve the Chargers already impressive offense.

After the Chargers the Saints finally check in at +1000, but they’re not alone. Also listed at +1000 are Pittsburgh and New England. If you think the Saints have a shot at repeating you would be smart to get your money in now while the odds are so profitable.
