Super Computer Week 5 Contest Picks

The OddsShark Super Computer is still hovering around the .500 mark with a 9-10-1 record on the season, though there’s no doubt that it’s starting to figure the numbers out after a tough 3-7 opening through the first two weeks. The Super Computer has changed up the algorithms and has decided that it’s best to lay the chalk and take favorites.

Without further ado, here is the Super Computer’s pick for the Super Contest this week:

Rams (-2) Over Bills

Favored by less than a field goal at home, how could you not pick the powerhouse Rams? Maybe a bit of sarcasm there, but this pick is more about betting against the Bills than betting on the Rams.

The Bills are coming off two straight wins, both as underdogs. The last time they covered the spread in three consecutive weeks as an underdog was way back in 2007. Also, putting three straight wins together has been impossible for the Bills, as they’re 0-9 SU and 1-7-1 ATS in their last nine games after consecutive wins.

Vikings (-6.5) Over Texans

The Minnesota Vikings have been the best bet in the NFL over the last year, and the Super Computer is expecting that to continue in Week 5 against the Houston Texans.

The Vikings, who are 6.5-point home favorites, have covered the spread in nine straight games dating back to last season. Minny’s defense is quickly establishing itself as one of the best units in the NFL, and they’ve limited every opponent to under 16 points so far.

Minnesota has had no problems dispatching Houston in previous meetings. In the last three clashes between the clubs, the Vikes are 3-0 SU and ATS. Lay the chalk in this one.

Patriots (-10.5) Over Browns

Remember how well Tom Brady played after almost being suspended? Imagine what he is prepared to do against a mediocre-at-best secondary after actually being forced to sit out the first four weeks of the season. Add to that a pissed-off Bill Belichick, who has had a week to stew over a 16-0 loss to the Buffalo Bills, and this game could get out of hand quickly.

The Browns have a great running attack, but will likely need to abandon that early to try to play catch-up. If it turns into a shootout, who are you going to trust: Tom Brady or Cody Kessler?

Eagles (-3) Over Lions

Carson Wentz and the Eagles are one of just three teams that have yet to lose and they are getting a great matchup in Week 5 to extend that record to 4-0 – who would’ve thought? Philly is coming off a bye week and that’s spelled success for them. In their last nine road games when coming off a bye, the Eagles are 7-2 both straight up and against the spread.

The Eagles are also 7-3 both straight up and against the spread in their last 10 games on the road as a favorite of three or fewer points but are 7-0 in their last seven as road chalk of 2.5 or fewer points. If money starts coming in on the Lions, the undefeated Eagles should be an absolute lock.

Titans (+3.5) Over Dolphins

The Titans are a laughable 1-10-1 against the spread in their last dozen games, but this team, in its current state, is better than that and that lone ATS win did indeed come this season. The Dolphins are just 2-9 ATS in their last 11 games but this team is NOT better than that.

The Titans have been underdogs in each contest and while they have just one win to show for their efforts, each contest has certainly been close.

The computer likes a nail biter in this one as well as it predicts a 21.5 to 21.3 scoreline with that slight edge favoring the Dolphins, but a Titans cover.
