Bossa Nova Kid Stays Hot to Move Into Top Spot for Team OddsShark

In Week 7, Paulo Antunes (aka Bossa Nova Kid) went 2-2-1 in the Super Contest when the rest of Team OddsShark outside of him and Michaela Vernava had a losing record. In Week 8, Antunes leapfrogged Ty Schalter into first place for the group after going 4-1, one of three members to earn that mark along with Pete Prisco and Dan Lyons. Vernava also followed up her perfect 5-0 week by going a respectable 3-2.

While Prisco and Lyons still reside below the .500 mark overall in the team standings, Antunes has his eyes set on a bigger prize. The ESPN Brazil reporter also moved into the top 50 of the entire field of a record 2,748 contestants with 25 points, tied for 33rd place with 26 others. The two co-leaders of the Super Contest are 28-12 (70 percent).

The rest of Team OddsShark turned in a much better performance in Week 8 too, with 12 of the 25 members posting a winning record at 3-2 or better. Schalter trails Antunes by only a half-point for the group lead after going 3-2 and sits just outside the top 50 overall. Jason Kirk and Richard Roeper are right behind him with 23 points apiece.

Other notable members of the team who bounced back in Week 8 include Rob Pizzola (3-2), Ben Maggin (3-2), Jon Anik (3-2), Anthony Riccobono (3-2) and Ryan Fowler (3-2). In fact, Fowler has put together winning marks in two of the past three weeks and may soon escape the cellar if Will Brinson and Clay Travis continue their struggles. Fowler is just a half-point back of both Brinson and Travis after they each went 1-4.

There were five others who went 1-4 in Week 8 as well, including Jhenny Andrade, Kelly Stewart, Mike Cole, Matt Ufford and OddsShark’s very own Jon Campbell. However, they were not the worst of the bunch, as Sam Panayotovich went 0-5 to drop out of the top 10 in the group standings. Panayotovich has gone 1-9 the last two weeks combined, equaling Brinson for the worst run during that stretch.
