Team NESN Chasing Mini Contest Title in Final Week of Super Contest

It all comes down to this, your five NFL picks against the spread opposite hundreds of others in the last week of the Super Contest at the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook. For Team NESN led by Mike Cole, that means another 5-0 performance in Week 17 would guarantee at least $10,000 in the Mini Contest, which takes place over the last three weeks of the season. Cole’s team has gone 9-0-1 the previous two weeks to tie J RENO atop the Mini Contest Standings. Three others have gone 9-1 over that stretch, with the winner taking home $20,000 or those tying for the Mini title splitting the pot.

That impressive run has also put Cole’s squad in contention for the Team OddsShark title with 42.5 points after they were 15th out of 24 group members overall going into Week 15. Anthony Riccobono still leads the team with 43.5 points while Frank Schwab is just a half-point behind with 43. Four more team members have 41 points, including Dan Katz and Hank Lockwood of Barstool Sports, Paulo Antunes and Matt Ufford. Of that group, Ufford is the only one who has competed for the team in all three years.

Four other Team OddsShark members remain mathematically alive for the group title, as Ben Eckstein, Jon Anik, Nick Kostos and the OddsShark Super Computer all have a very remote chance to top Riccobono if he happens to go 0-5 and one or more of them go 5-0. Of course the others ahead of them would also all need to stumble to some degree, which seems to be a longshot at this point. Regardless, the most excitement for the team involves the top three competitors in the group standings and how their picks will fare on Sunday along with whether or not Team NESN can win the Mini Contest.

For those wondering how the Top 5 consensus NFL picks have been doing down the stretch in the Super Contest, the answer is great. After sitting at 8-21-1 heading into Week 7, they have gone on a hot 21-7-2 run the past six weeks to improve to 36-40-4 overall. The top consensus play for Week 17 is the Green Bay Packers (9-6), who were selected by 538 contestants and are listed as 3.5-point road favorites visiting the Detroit Lions (9-6) in the Sunday Night Football matchup. That game will determine the NFC North division title, and the Packers lost in a similar situation at home last year 20-13 to the Minnesota Vikings but still managed to make the playoffs as a Wild Card. Green Bay and Detroit would need to tie for both teams to get into the postseason this year.
