Vikings Most Popular Play by Team OddsShark in Week 5 of SuperContest

Will the SuperContest consensus curse strike again in Week 5 of the SuperContest at the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook? Many members of Team OddsShark certainly hope not because some of the group’s top picks were also chosen by a large number of contestants in the record field of 1,854 as well. Most notably the Minnesota Vikings, who were picked by nearly half of the team (11 of 24) and 508 times overall (27 percent).

The Vikings are hosting the Houston Texans as 6.5-point home favorites on the Week 5 SuperContest Card, and they have gone a remarkable 18-2 against the spread in their last 20 games (including the playoffs), according to the OddsShark NFL Database. Maybe that’s why a lot of entrants selected Minnesota; at least it was the main reason Kelly Stewart (a.k.a. kellyinvegas) did, as noted in her video with Clay Travis here.

The top NFL consensus pick in the SuperContest overall, though, is the Cincinnati Bengals, who are 1-point road favorites visiting the Dallas Cowboys. The Bengals were chosen by a season-high 841 contestants (45 percent), with the Philadelphia Eagles (568) coming in second visiting the Detroit Lions as 3-point road chalk. Cincinnati was selected by nine members of Team OddsShark too as their second-most popular play.

The Vikings rank third among the Top 5 consensus SuperContest picks overall, followed by the Pittsburgh Steelers (494) and New York Giants (476). The Steelers are hosting the New York Jets as 7-point home favorites while the Giants are visiting the Green Bay Packers as 7.5-point road underdogs in the Week 5 Sunday Night Football matchup.

One positive for Team OddsShark could be that more members picked the Lions than the Eagles by a 6-5 margin, that is if the current 1-16 skid for the Top 5 continues in Week 5. The Top 5 actually lost 15 in a row at one point after getting off to a hot 3-0 start in Week 1, with that streak ending when the Denver Broncos covered the spread as 3-point road chalk in a 27-7 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last Sunday. That cover by Denver prevented the Top 5 from going 0-5 for a third consecutive week.
