Patriots Trying to Extend an ATS Streak

The New England Patriots will have Tom Brady under center as they try to cover the spread for the third straight time dating back to last year's Super Bowl run when they host the Pittsburgh Steelers in the NFL season opener on Thursday.

The defending champion Patriots will have reigning Super Bowl MVP Brady in uniform after he won his appeal to remove a four-game suspension issued by the league for his role in the Deflategate scandal.

New England has enjoyed a lot of success in this series with a 9-3 record against the number in the past 12 meetings with the Steelers, who will be without running back Le'Veon Bell after he was suspended for violating the league's substance-abuse policy.

With Bell out, Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will be counted on even more to help his team cover for the fifth time in six games overall, coming off a career year that saw him throw for 4,952 yards and 32 touchdowns.

Supporters of the Pittsburgh Steelers have seen them go 11-6 and 9-8 ATS so far this season, while the New England Patriots are at 15-4 and 11-8 ATS. In totals betting, the Patriots are 11-8, while the Steelers are 9-7-1.

NFL Daily Fantasy, Best Football Picks

Calvin Johnson is the biggest name in fantasy football for wide receivers, but he probably shouldn’t be your top choice in fantasy or DFS for Week 1.

While Draft Kings, Yahoo, FanDuel and the other major DFS sites are ranking their players and setting salaries, sportsbooks are weighing in with their opinions. And putting their money where their mouth is when they say Antonio Brown will get more fantasy points than Calvin Johnson in Week 1.

NFL Week 1 Steelers, 49ers No Respect

The NFL season kicks off with some marquee teams getting an early douse of disrespect from oddsmakers.

Include San Francisco and Pittsburgh in this group of teams looking to prove wrong the early doubters.

Wondering the last time when the Steelers were regular-season underdogs of a touchdown or more? That was back in 2009 and they are currently laying seven points at New England (now that Tom Brady is back under center).

In fact, the Steelers have been dogs of seven or more points only 10 times in the past 15 years and are 8-2 ATS.

NFL Week 1 OddsShark Computer Picks

The battle for the NFC North division crown starts quickly this season when the Chicago Bears host the Green Bay Packers on Sunday. The OddsShark Computer is projecting the Packers to walk away with the win but the Bears to cover.

NFL Week 1 Opening Odds Analysis

Once the NFL released its 2015 schedule back in April some betting shops wasted no time posting lines and taking action. This generated publicity and an extra four months worth of business for them.

It also resulted in those bookmakers having to deal with steam on Green Bay-Chicago, the Baltimore-Denver total, and a favorite change in Minnesota-San Francisco. And those books have been ensnared in the nightmare of Deflategate as well.

NFL Week 1 Betting Trends Analysis

The Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Bears have been playing one another since 1921. Believe it or not, their series stands at 93-93-6.

It's tied because the Packers have dominated lately. Green Bay is 9-1 SU and 8-2 ATS in its last 10 games against Chicago. The only Packers loss during that span occurred two years ago when Aaron Rodgers suffered a broken collarbone when sacked by Shea McClellin during the first series in a 27-20 home loss.

Top Picks Square Off as Bucs Host Titans

Two teams that combined for just four wins and 10 covers a year ago will battle in Tampa Bay on Sunday when the Buccaneers host the Tennessee Titans.

The Bucs and Titans each finished 2-14 last season, and neither team fared much better against the spread. Tampa Bay was 7-9 versus the number and played better following an 0-3 start ATS while Tennessee was an abysmal 3-12-1.

The Titans failed to cover their last six games of 2014 during a 10-game losing streak and went 1-7 straight-up on the road with a 2-6 mark ATS.

One of their two wins surprisingly came in the season opener on the road against the Kansas City Chiefs, and rookie quarterback Marcus Mariota will lead them this year after being selected second overall in the NFL Draft.

Tampa Bay picked quarterback Jameis Winston with the top selection in the draft and hopes he will fare better than last year's free-agent bust Josh McCown, who is now starting for the Cleveland Browns.

Tampa Bay will face the 2-14 Tennessee Titans, who own a 3-12-1 ATS mark on the season. In totals betting, the Buccaneers are 5-11 so far this season while the Titans are 6-10.

Week 1 NFL Betting Odds with Pick - Cincinnati Bengals vs Oakland Raiders

The Cincinnati Bengals hope to continue their recent regular-season success and snap a two-game skid against the spread when they visit the Oakland Raiders on Sunday to kick off the new NFL year.

The Bengals went 10-5-1 last season straight-up and 8-7-1 ATS before falling in the Wild Card round of the playoffs for the fourth straight year. Cincinnati quarterback Andy Dalton has taken much of the blame for the team's postseason failures, but the defense surrendered nearly 26 points per game in those losses.

The Raiders have missed the playoffs 12 consecutive years and have a new head coach in former Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio, who also previously led the Jacksonville Jaguars for nearly nine seasons.

Del Rio inherits a team that dropped 10 in a row to start 2014 before going 3-3 in the final six games. Oakland was 8-8 against the spread as well, and all three wins last year came as underdogs of more than six points.

The Cincinnati Bengals will try to spoil to the party on Sunday; they are 8-8-1 ATS against the spread this season, while the Oakland Raiders are 8-8 ATS. Cincinnati is 6-11 on the over under betting totals; Oakland is 10-6.

New Orleans Saints at Arizona Cardinals Week 1 Betting Pick and Odds

Two NFC teams that experienced very different seasons a year ago will square off on Sunday at University of Phoenix Stadium when the Arizona Cardinals host the New Orleans Saints off a successful 11-5 campaign both straight-up and against the spread.

Arizona won nine of its first 10 games, covering eight of them, and the team hopes to have a healthy Carson Palmer back in the lineup at quarterback after he missed the last 10 games of last season due to a torn ACL.

Meanwhile, the Saints suffered through an extremely disappointing campaign, just missing out on the postseason despite finishing 7-9. New Orleans failed to beat the number in four of its first five games and then went 2-6 against the spread in the second half.

Drew Brees also fell just short of passing for 5,000 yards in four straight years and will be without top target Jimmy Graham, as the All-Pro tight end was traded to the Seattle Seahawks in the offseason.

Arizona bring a 11-6 record (11-6 ATS) to the Week 1 betting matchup against the 7-9 New Orleans Saints, who are 6-10 ATS against the spread. Over under betting has seen Arizona go 6-10-1 so far and the Saints go 10-6.

San Diego Chargers Hosting the Detroit Lions Week 1 Odds and Betting Pick

In what could be their last season opener in San Diego, the Chargers will host the Detroit Lions on Sunday as small favorites and try to break a five-game home losing streak against the spread.

The franchise did not exercise its right to terminate the lease at Qualcomm Stadium this year, so San Diego will try to turn things around there after failing to cover the number in its last five home games to end 2014.

The Chargers inked quarterback Philip Rivers to a four-year contract extension that will keep him with the team through 2019, and he will have a new running back to help balance out the offense this year in rookie Melvin Gordon from the Wisconsin Badgers.

The Lions enjoyed a successful campaign under first-year head coach Jim Caldwell that ended with a postseason appearance and a tough loss to the Dallas Cowboys in the first round of the playoffs.

Detroit started last season by going 3-1 straight-up and ATS but covered just two of seven down the stretch before falling 24-20 at Dallas as 6-point underdogs.

The San Diego Chargers currently sport a record of 9-7, and have posted a corresponding betting slate of 7-9 ATS. The Detroit Lions are 11-6 and 8-9 ATS. Betting totals have seen the San Diego Chargers post a 7-9 over under record this season, while the Detroit Lions have gone 5-12 against the number.
