Saints huge chalk vs Colts

In the second Super Bowl rematch, the Saints host the Colts in a matchup of Super Bowl XLIV teams, but clearly this is not a championship-calibre team in Indy in 2011.

New Orleans opened as 14-point chalk against the winless Colts and this number could climb much higher during the week. Of note, the past four meetings have been high-scoring affairs (at least 48 PPG in each).

NFL Prop Bets: New QBs take the field

Out with the old and in with the new seems to be the trend around the NFL this week as Denver, Minnesota, and Washington all hand over the reins to their backup quarterbacks this week. Bovada was quick to develop prop bets for these moves so that bettors can bet on each team’s new quarterback.

Here are the prop bets around those quarterback changes as well as a key game in the AFC South in Week 7.

It’s Tebow Time

Sunday Setup: Rams deal with injuries

Some injuries are easy to diagnose right away, but others can change day-to-day. Many key players around the league were dealing with those more difficult injuries this week, and we have the most recent information available.

Here are some of the late injury updates from Friday evening for this week’s NFL action.

Jahvid Best ruled out with a concussion

Line Moves: Chargers Chalk vs. Jets

While most of the games on this week’s NFL betting card have had a line movement of only a half-point or none at all so far, five have seen significant line movements of two or more points.

Here’s an inside look at those five games with the significant line movements in Week 7. From these line movements, it would appear that football bettors were not too impressed with last week’s Monday Night Football game between New York and Miami.

Under predicted in Browns vs Seahawks

A pair of teams that rank near the bottom of key offensive and defensive stat categories battle in Cleveland as the rested Seahawks come to town as small underdogs.

Good luck finding any meaningful trends in the head-to-head history. They have only met three times, with a close low-scoring, a close high-scoring game and a blowout in the mix.

Interestingly, Seattle comes off a bye week where they have traditionally struggled (2-10 ATS past 12 years following a bye). But they hit their bye with momentum, shocking the Giants on the road back in Week 5.

Injury Report: Palmer in for Raiders

No injury in the NFL caused more of a stir this week than the one to Oakland Raiders quarterback Jason Campbell. It wasn’t just the injury to Campbell that caused the commotion; it was who they went out and got to replace him.

NFL props: Passing Fancy Odds

Is John Beck a passing fancy in Washington with Rex Grossman waiting in the wings?

What about Christian Ponder in Minnesota with overpaid, over-the-hill Donovan McNabb creeping in the shadows for the Vikings?

Bodog loves to stir the pot on quarterback props and it seems each week brings new QB drama and new faces to bet on. This week, the main attraction is Carson Palmer, newly minted Oakland Raider starter.

Bye Week Trends Impact Week 7 Odds

Like it or not, bye weeks can have a significant impact on your NFL handicapping, whether a team is heading into an off week or coming out of one.

A team coasting into a bye week at 6-0 may rest a banged-up player, knowing that a loss doesn’t wreck their season. A team hitting the bye at 1-5 may throw everything but the kitchen sink at that game to ensure hey have a shot at the playoffs coming out of the bye.

Palmer Era Starts in Oakland

Hated rivals clash again in Oakland as the Chiefs visit the Raiders with the Carson Palmer era beginning for Raider Nation.

The roadies have done very well lately, with Kansas City going 7-1 SU in its last eight trips to face their AFC West foes and going back to 1983 they are 15-4 ATS in 19 visits. But does that hold up in 2011 as the improving Raiders (4-1-1 ATS) host the struggling, injury-riddled Chiefs?

Pittsburgh Steelers vs Arizona Cardinals Odds

It's a rematch of Super Bowl XLV but in reality it's more about the Steelers getting ready for a playoff run and the Cardinals trying to get back on track.

The Steelers opened as 3-point favorites against a Cards team that has been a reliable UNDER after their bye, going 5-1 in the past six games in that situation. But at home recently, it has been the opposite situation with Arizona playing 9 OVERs in 11 games.

The Steelers have only lost three times in the past 20 games when they were favored and this spread should hold up during the week. Watch the status of injured Steelers regulars to see if this point spread moves during the week.
