NFL Line Moves: Rams huge underdogs

Some weeks, bettors and bookmakers see eye to eye on most games. A few games have a minor adjustment here or there, and most of the board stays put. With four games seeing line movements of over three points, Week 6 is clearly not one of those weeks.

Here’s a look at four games with big line movements in Week 6.

St. Louis Rams @ Green Bay Packers (from -10.5 to -15.5 at 5Dimes)

Saints consensus pick to beat Bucs

A team that lost 48-3 last week opened as just 3.5-point underdogs against the high-powered Saints?

Is this an oddsmaker error as New Orleans visits Tampa Bay on the Week 6 NFL odds menu? Maybe, as the Saints are 7-2 ATS in their past nine trips to Tampa, which got killed by the 49ers in Week 5.

The Buccaneers have been a tough dog lately, going 6-2 ATS while the OVER has been a reliable wager when the Saints are small faves of 4 or less points (14-2 past 16 times).

Raiders Browns Odds Preview

The Raiders look to win a second straight game in the wake of owner Al Davis' death last week as they host the Cleveland Browns.

Oakland earned a tough road win at Houston on Sunday and they opened as 6-point home chalk against the rested Browns. Cleveland seems to learn from its bye week, going 4-1 ATS in the past 5 seasons after their bye. Of note, the OVER is 4-1 in those games.

But the Raiders historically have trouble with the Browns - they are 0-5 ATS in their past five meetings with only one victory.

Ravens have never lost to Houston

Houston has never beaten the Baltimore Ravens in four career attempts and they opened as 7-point underdogs on the Week 6 NFL odds menu for their fifth attempt.

Houston suffered a home loss to the emotional Raiders (who lost owner Al Davis last Saturday) and will be without WR Andre Johnson again. The Ravens meanwhile come off a bye week, a situation where they have thrived recently (8-1 ATS in the past nine seasons following a bye week).

Jaguars Visit Steelers as Big Dogs

Call it a surprising trend, but the Jacksonville Jaguars have been a terrific bet when they visit Pittsburgh over the years.

The Jags are 5-1 SU and 4-2 ATS in their past 6 trips to face the Steelers. And they get 14 points from oddsmakers who seem to believe the Steelers are back after their Week 5 thumping of Tennessee.

Jacksonville meanwhile has lost four in a row, sits at 1-4 ATS for the season, and is 0-5 ATS in their past five games as a dog of 9 or more points.

Giants host Bills in NFL betting

The Giants and Bills have faced each other four times since 1996 and the home team has never won.

Oddsmakers installed host New York as a 3-point favorite against the surprising 4-1 Bills, who come in off a win over Philly. Both teams head for the bye week and both should be hungry for a victory to sustain some momentum.

The Giants look to rebound from a horrible home loss to Seattle when Charlie Whitehurst beat them up. Of concern, they are giving up almost 160 rushing yards per game over their past three games.

Winless Rams Face Unbeaten Packers

St. Louis has been a good bet following a bye week, but their situation on the Week 6 NFL odds menu doesn't make them a good bet to win the game.

The winless Rams visit Lambeau to take on the unbeaten (5-0) Green Bay Packers. The Rams have covered four straight post-bye week games and they get a lot of points on the opening spread this week - 15.5 points at most shops tracked by OddsShark.

And it's a challenge for the Packers who are 11-3 ATS in their past 14 games as chalk to see if they can cover a huge number.

Bengals Colts Betting Preview for Week 6

Indianapolis has won seven straight against the Bengals but trends like those get taken with a huge grain of salt with the Peyton Manning-less Colts.

Indy is 0-5, and despite winning 7 of 8 trips to Cincinnati they opened as 8-point road underdogs against their AFC foes. The Bengals have won two straight and look for three hitting their bye week in Week 7.

The Bengals are just 2-12 ATS in their past 14 games as a favorite.

Falcons battle Panthers in Week 6 odds

Atlanta's second-half implosion against the Packers didn't amuse oddsmakers, who left them as small 4-point home chalk against the visiting Panthers on the Week 6 NFL odds menu.

But despite Carolina's improvements, they are a pathetic 3-10-2 ATS in 15 recent trips to Atlanta, meaning they have covered the spread there 3 times in 15 seasons.

NFL Injuries: Giants vs. Bills Lines

After an embarrassing loss at home to the Seattle Seahawks as a 9.5-point favorite last Sunday the New York Giants hope their injury misfortunes will take a turn for the better before this weekend’s game against Buffalo.
