Nover: Five Best NFL Coaches This Year

Who have done the five best coaching jobs in the NFL this season? Here are my five choices based on record, pointspread mark, comparison of their before-the-season win total using Bovada over/under figures and my own eye test.

NFL Week 15 Expert Betting Odds Picks

Two underdogs and a total are the NFL Week 15 ticket. Let's start with Chicago getting 5.5 points at Minnesota.

The Vikings are improved under Mike Zimmer, but they are far from a powerhouse. I see the Bears keeping this one close, which was the case in Week 8 when Minnesota won, 23-20, on a field goal at the gun. The Bears had more passing yards, first downs and clock possession in that loss.

Are Double-Digit Faves Worth the Chalk?

Seattle Seahawks Russell Wilson

It’s widely known in the sports betting world how much “Joe Public” loves betting on favorites, but how much chalk is too much chalk? When it comes to wagering on big spreads in the NFL, heavily favored teams have been medicore at best for their bettors.

NFL Week 15 Betting Trends Analysis

Be it Lucas Oil Stadium or the RCA Dome, the Houston Texans have never beaten the Colts in Indianapolis. The Texans try to end their 0-13 mark there Sunday with first place in the AFC South at stake.

The quarterback situation is less than ideal for both teams. The Texans' Brian Hoyer suffered a concussion versus New England this past Sunday and has been ruled out for this week; T.J. Yates will start in his place. The Colts' Andrew Luck (kidney) is out for Sunday as well, while Matt Hasselbeck (ribs, back spasms) is banged up but is expected to start.

Nover: Falcons to Pull Off a Rare Feat?

No NFL team has started 5-0 and finished below .500 since the leagues merged in 1970. That string could be broken by the 6-7 Atlanta Falcons.

Since averaging 29.8 points during their first five games - all victories - the Falcons have averaged a puny 14.6 points during their last eight games going 1-7. The Falcons have been burying bettors since the second Sunday of October going 0-9 against the spread. Atlanta is plus three at Jacksonville Sunday.

NFL MVP Odds: Newton's to Lose

Cam Newton

With three weeks remaining in the NFL season, Cam Newton has taken a commanding lead in the MVP odds at Bovada, and with good reason. Newton has been the catalyst for the Carolina Panthers’ perfect season, having already set a career high with 28 touchdown passes along with a career best 96.9 quarterback rating.

TNF Betting Preview: Buccaneers at Rams

Tampa Bay NFL

Thanks to a 24-17 loss to the New Orleans Saints in Week 14, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers came back down to life after an impressive stretch that saw them win three of their previous four. Next up for Jameis Winston and company is a Thursday Night Football matchup with the St. Louis Rams in Missouri.

<h5>Shark Bites</h5>

<ul class="content-list">
<li>The visiting team is 3-8 SU in its last 11 games in this matchup.</li>
<li>The Buccaneers are 2-9 ATS in their last 11 games on the road in December.</li>
<li>The total has gone UNDER in eight of the Buccaneers' last 11 games on the road.</li>

St. Louis is simply going through the motions at this point in a lost season, but they have had the edge against the Bucs in recent meetings. The Rams have covered the closing spread in their last four clashes with Tampa Bay.

The Rams have been one of the top UNDER teams in the NFL this season due largely due to an inefficient offense. The OVER/UNDER has gone 3-10 in the Rams’ 2015 campaign.

With the eyes of the nation squarely upon them, St. Louis has been a terrible bet when appearing on Thursday Night Football. The Rams are 1-6 ATS in their prior seven Thursday affairs.

NFL Week 15 OddsShark Computer Picks

I don’t think many people expected a 51-point day from the Jacksonville Jaguars last week, but it was exactly what we got. The Jags put up the most points in their team’s not-so-illustrious existence thanks to a performance that saw the offense, defense and special teams all score. The OddsShark Super Computer is a supporter of the Jags as it has tabbed Jacksonville to pound the Atlanta Falcons 31.1-16.6.

NFL Week 15 Opening Odds Analysis

It still seems strange for old-timers like myself, brought up on the Vince Lombardi power sweep, to see NFL totals in the 50's.

There have been totals of 50 points or higher in all but two of the weeks this NFL season. This Week 15 is no exception with an over/under of 51 in the Detroit-New Orleans Monday night game and 50.5 in the Arizona-Philadelphia matchup.

Chargers are Lights Out on the UNDER

Miami Dolphins Jarvis Landry

It’s not the most attractive matchup on the Week 15 NFL slate, but there’s plenty of betting value to be found in the Miami Dolphins-San Diego Chargers contest in the Golden State. Miami has historically enjoyed facing San Diego, as the Fish are 9-2 SU in their last 11 against the Bolts.

Shark Bites
  • The Dolphins are 7-2 ATS in their last nine games against the Chargers.
  • The Chargers are 7-17 ATS in their last 24 games.
  • The Dolphins are 1-3 SU and ATS in their last four games on the road.

Neither side has been particularly great at the betting window this season. Miami (4-9 ATS) has covered the spread just once in their prior seven games, while San Diego is 5-8 ATS on the season. The Chargers have scored three points on three different occasions in their last four games which has unsurprisingly been a nice boost for UNDER bettors. The UNDER has cashed three times during that span.
