N.J. Gov. on sports betting: 'We'll win'

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie didn't mince words when asked about the lawsuit filed by the NFL, NCAA, and other major sports leagues challenging his state's push to offer legalized sports betting.

"I think we’re going to win," Christie told reporters at an afternoon press conference. "I think we’re going to win. Because I don’t believe the federal government has the right to decide that only certain states can have sports gambling.

Why Bet NFL Preseason?

Casual NFL bettors everywhere ask the question every August: why bet on NFL preseason games when they don’t matter?

Well, son, in football everything matters. And in football betting, everything matters, especially when there are favorable lines and an edge to be gained.

NFL Preseason Betting Schedule

NFL preseason betting gets underway on Sunday with the Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio between the Arizona Cardinals and the New Orleans Saints, with the Saints set as the favorites.

New Orleans is pegged as the 2.5-point favorite at 5Dimes for Sunday's contest, with the OVER/UNDER for the game listed at 34.5 points. The Hall of Fame Game was cancelled last year due to the NFL lockout; Dallas beat Cincinnati 16-7 back in 2010.

NFL preseason lines released

How will the New Orleans Saints react after an offseason marred by a bounty scandal that resulted in a season-long suspension to head coach Sean Payton and multiple player suspensions?

That’s one of the biggest questions facing NFL bettors this season, and it begins next Sunday in the Hall of Fame Game where the Saints are 3-point favorites over the Arizona Cardinals. The total is set at 35.5 points for that contest at the sportsbooks.

BetOnline posted lines for all of the Week 1 preseason games on Friday.

NFL Betting: Eight Weeks Until Kickoff

The NFL kicks off in eight weeks with a Wednesday night showdown that will set the tone for the NFC East division this season.

The defending-champion Giants are 3-point (-120) home favorites over the visiting Cowboys, a relatively small number considering that New York has covered the spread in four of its last five games against Dallas. As well, the defending Super Bowl champions are sitting at 9-2-1 ATS in their season opener over the past dozen years.

NFL Draft Odds: Luck, RG3 Off Board

Much of the drama is absent with Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III already slotted, but that doesn't mean NFL draft odds lack excitement or volume in 2012.

Will the Minnesota Vikings trade the third pick? Will Cleveland trade the fourth pick?

After Luck and RG3, how many QBs will be taken in the first round? The over-under is 3.5.

And in a draft where running backs are being dismissed, how many will go in Round 1? It's a lock that Trent Richardson will be picked but will any other RBs be taken? (The over under is 1.5).

Bill Parcells New Orleans Saints odds

It started out as a weird joke: Sean Payton was chatting with Bill Parcells about coaching the New Orleans Saints in 2012.

Slow news day or the fanciful musings of some bored blogger in the Bayou, probably.

Then it quickly became a serious topic of conversation to the point where sportsbooks made Tuna the favorite to become the next head coach while Payton sits out his suspension in the wake of Bounty-Gate.

“Even as the NFL stated that Payton is welcome to appeal his one-year suspension, the groundswell of betting support has been behind Parcells,” said Mike Pickett

Sean Payton suspension: Saints odds

New Orleans Saints fans have longer Super Bowl odds Wednesday afternoon after the NFL came down hard on coach Sean Payton and his coaching staff in its Saints punishment.

The investigation of bounties to injure opposing players yielded a one-year ban for the Saints head coach, an indefinite suspension for defensive boss Gregg Williams and more penalties.

The Saints will also lose second-round picks in 2012 and 2013, eroding their prospect stream for the next several years.

Peyton Manning Denver Broncos Odds

Maybe Peyton Manning couldn’t shake the idea of having a horse in his name after 16 years with the horseshoe on his Colts helmet.

Whatever the case (and there were 95 million reasons apparently), Manning will join the Denver Broncos, considered a longshot when he became a free agent two weeks ago.

Just as the fervor of speculation began when he became available, so too does speculation of what he’ll achieve in a Denver uniform. And what will happen to another favorite target for NFL prop odds, Tim Tebow.

Peyton Manning: Odds Say Dolphins

Peyton Manning’s pain in the neck may well have led to Tom Brady having a pain in the neck twice each season.

Oddsmakers have made the Miami Dolphins the top betting choice on where the four-time MVP will sign after he was released by the Indianapolis Colts Wednesday.

“We don’t see the Dolphins as the best fit, but some other factors are at play here that make sense, hence the 2/1 odds,” said Mike Pickett.
