The bantamweights take center stage when the UFC invades the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada on May 29. Two undefeated prospects meet in the main event as Thomas Almeida and Cody Garbrandt clash in a battle for the future of the 135-lbs division.
The present of the bantamweight division is also up for grabs when Aljamain Sterling and Bryan Caraway meet on the Fight Pass main event. The winner of the bout will put himself in good position to challenge for the bantamweight title in 2017.
2015 was a historic year for upsets in the UFC. Seven titles changed hands during the year, and no upset was bigger than Holly Holm’s over the once-invincible Ronda Rousey. For the year, underdogs posted a 180-288 record vs favorites, earning the W in 38.5% of fights. Will 2016 once again be a big year for the underdog, or will the favorites simply do what they’re supposed to do?

Venator FC is far from an established MMA property, but their perchant for grabbing some notable – though over-the-hill – fighters and grandiose claims from Frank Merenda have gotten a few people looking. Though Venator is not going to be a rival to the UFC or Bellator any time soon, the company has managed to make enough noise to draw some eyes.
There are rumors abound that the UFC could potentially be changing hands sooner rather than later. There are currently four different buyers looking to purchase the UFC according to a report from ESPN’s Darren Rovell.
With the all-time series split and a general distain for one another, Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber will meet for a third time at UFC 199. Cruz will defend his UFC Bantamweight belt for the first time since regaining it following a year and a half layoff due to injuries.
The first time Cruz and Faber met came back in WEC in 2007. ‘The California Kid’ gave ‘The Dominator’ the lone loss of his entire MMA career in that bout with Faber winning via guillotine in the first round. The second meeting came at UFC 132 when Cruz defended the bantamweight belt in a five-round battle.
