Triple Crown Odds: 2015 Winner Longshot

Horse racing’s Triple Crown appears to be getting more difficult to achieve and the odds posted this week show it will be a longshot bet once again in 2015. Online racebooks such as Bovada had the prospect of a Triple Crown winner in 2015 pegged at +600 (6-1 odds) as of January 7. The ‘no’ bet is a -1000 proposition, meaning you need to wager $100 just to turn a small $10 profit.

2014 Breeders’ Cup Future Odds Update

The 14-horse Classic field showcases the best contenders of the season.

Four Horse of the Year candidates are running, including 8/5 betting favourite Shared Belief, California Chrome, Tonalist and Bayer. Shared Belief was the Eclipse Award champion two-year-old male last year and a winner of seven straight races to begin his career. He missed the 2014 Triple Crown races with foot problems. Mike Smith will ride the gelding, starting from Post 6. No three-year-old has won the Classic since Raven's Pass in 2008.

The hype is running at an all-time high, California Chrome appears ready, and online racebooks have the party started with tons of Belmont Stakes props and Triple Crown betting specials.

The Belmont is the longest of the three major races and it has been a haven for longshots in recent years. Ever heard of Matuszak? Maybe you will after Saturday and he is a 10-1 longshot to even finish in the Top 3, according to Bovada, which is expecting a huge day of horse racing activity Saturday.

Belmont Stakes Betting: Morning Line

California Chrome was installed as the 3-5 morning line favorite for Saturday’s $1.5 million Belmont Stakes (G1), where the colt will face a field of 10 looking to end his bid to become the first Triple Crown winner since 1978.

The colt will break from the two-post with jockey Victor Espinoza aboard for the ride. The colt has won six races in a row including taking the first two jewels of the Triple Crown, the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes. The colt is currently listed at betting odds of 10-11 at Bovada.

Preakness Stakes Props: Matchup Odds

The Preakness Stakes prop odds menu was released Thursday and favorite California Chrome figures prominently in them.

The Kentucky Derby winner is a huge favorite to win at Pimlico and he’s a prohibitive 1/5 bet to finish in the Top 3 on Saturday, according to Bovada which posted props.

Two weeks ago, longshot Commanding Curve was a 15/1 bet to finish in the money and he finished a strong second. This time, Ring Weekend has the longest odds on that Preakness Stakes prop.

Triple Crown Odds on California Chrome

On Saturday, a wager on any horse to win the Triple Crown was a 9-1 payout. On Sunday, that same wager was down to a 2-1 payout at one racebook.

Such was the dominant form of California Chrome in the 140th Kentucky Derby that racebook and sportsbook managers slashed the odds to win the Triple Crown.

Kentucky Derby 2014 Props Announced

The Kentucky Derby winner won’t win the Preakness Stakes and there certainly won’t be a Triple Crown winner in 2014.

That, according to the Kentucky Derby 2014 props announced this week courtesy of Bovada. The ‘no Triple Crown winner’ prop carries a current 1-12 pricetag, meaning $1 in profit for every $12 wagered.

Price on the Derby favorite drifts upward

As we get closer to the 140th running of the Kentucky Derby the price on betting favorite California Chrome is starting to rise slightly, currently at 5/2 on the odds released by Bovada on Tuesday morning.

The Santa Anita Derby (G1) winner had dropped to as low as 7/4 last week, and his price has now drifted upward. It likely will stay in the 5/2 to 3/1 range the remainder of the week.
