Tiger Woods' Comeback Odds: Hello, Safeway Open

There aren’t many professional athletes who are as polarizing as Tiger Woods. Woods, the first athlete to become a billionaire and one of the most talented golfers to ever swing a club, has been a non-factor on the PGA Tour in the last few years due to injuries.

In early September the 40-year-old announced he was planning to return to the game he loves in mid-October at the Safeway Open. As of October 7, he was officially in the field.

Ryder Cup Odds: Europe is Embracing Underdog Role

Golf’s ultimate battle for international supremacy, the Ryder Cup, is almost here and sports bettors are gearing up for one of the most exciting events of the year.

At online sportsbook Bovada, the Americans are heavy -185 favorites, while the Europeans come in as +145 underdogs. The Euros currently own the bragging rights, having won three consecutive Ryder Cups. Since Europe’s tournament inception in 1979, they’re 10-7-1 in 18 appearances on the big stage. Team Europe has won eight of the last 10 Ryder Cups.

Why Europe Will Win the Ryder Cup

When examining the odds for the 41st Ryder Cup, it’s quite clear oddsmakers are expecting the trophy to return to the land of the free and the home of the brave. I’m not so convinced.

At Bovada, the United States are hefty -185 favorites to triumph in the renowned event, with Europe’s chances coming in at a distant +145. Those odds have increased ahead of the tournament, as America was -165 in mid-August.

When it comes to international pride in sports, it’s hard to top the intensity of the Ryder Cup.

Golf’s biggest grudge match will once again pit Europe against the host United States in the 41st edition of the event. Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota is the setting this time around.

The current holders, Europe, have won three straight Ryder Cups, with their latest triumph coming in Scotland in 2014. Since Europe’s tournament inception in 1979, they’re 10-7-1 against the U.S.A.

Source: Team USA "An Absolute Lock" At Ryder Cup

You may have noticed that Team USA opened as hefty -190 favorites to win this year’s Ryder Cup at Hazeltine. And there’s a good reason for it.

A source close to the PGA told me this week that he sees USA as “an absolute lock” to win.

“Team USA is young, driven with good camaraderie. They are like a big fraternity these days. Europe has become quite disjointed. Most of the players play in the States now and they have six rookies,” says the insider.

The event, which normally features the top 70 players in the standings, will see 69 men take the field after Henrik Stenson pulled himself out with a knee injury. The top 30 golfers will go on to compete in the Tour Championship at East Lake in the final staging of the playoffs.

Four Underdog Picks For The Deutsche Bank Championship

The Deutsche Bank Championship goes this weekend, which is always a cool tourney on the schedule. It’s in Boston, it runs from Friday to Monday and it’s a classy field that always gives you a little side of golf to go with your Labor Day weekend college football action.

TPC Boston is a tough-but-fair track where you can go low if you keep it in play but you can struggle in a hurry if you don't. It's why the winner usually posts a low score while the tourney scoring average usually ranks among the toughest of the par 71s played on Tour each year.
