College Football Week 9 Odds Analysis

The West Virginia Mountaineers are 4-8 straight up and 2-10 against the spread in their last 12 games in the month of October. The Mountaineers will try to turn that luck around on Thursday night visiting the TCU Horned Frogs.

Familiar Face Favorite to Coach Miami

Miami Hurricanes coach Butch Davis

The Miami Hurricanes rightfully axed head coach Al Golden after the biggest loss in team history, a 58-0 embarrassment against Clemson. Now the team looks ahead, or possibly backwards, for their next permanent head coach.

Butch Davis, the coach of The U from 1995-2000, has publically stated that he would be interested in coming back to the team he once dominated with.  Not surprisingly, Bovada has opened Davis as a +175 favorite to take on head coaching duties in Miami.

Stanford vs Wash State Week 9 Odds

As if Stanford was not hot enough on their own, they are visiting Washington State this Saturday, a place where they have gone 8-1 ATS in their last nine games. The last time the Cardinal visited the Cougars was September 28, 2013, a game that saw Stanford thump Washington State 55-17.

Since their Wee 1 loss, Stanford has been averaging 42.7 points per game on the back of Christian McCaffery. The sophomore running back is averaging 6.2 yards per carry and 13.5 yards per reception this season while making eight trips to the endzone.

After three consecutive conference wins, it’s time for the Pac-12 to start paying attention to Washington State. The Cougars are sporting one of the best passing offenses in the nation, which is the furthest thing from a surprise, with quarterback Luke Falk notching 1426 yards and 16 touchdowns in the past three games.

Georgia vs Florida Week 9 Preview

The SEC East leading Florida Gators host their long-time rival, the Georgia Bulldogs at EverBank Field this Saturday. Georgia is a game behind Florida in the standings and will look to give the Gators their first home loss of the season.

Florida leaves a lot to be desired offensively; ranking 86th in yards per game, but the defense is filled with phenomenal talent and is ranked in the top 20 in most significant defensive categories. If the Gators can get a win in this one they get an easy looking schedule of Vanderbilt, South Carolina, and Florida Atlantic in their next three.

Many Georgia fans surely threw their hands up when they saw star running back Nick Chubb go down and so far their frustrations are justified. The Bulldogs are coming off of a boring 9-6 win over Mizzou, a game that saw their backs average 2.7 yards per run and quarterback Grayson Lambert average 5.6 yards per pass.

Arizona State vs Oregon Week 9 Odds

It has not been a year to remember for Oregon after some huge seasons the past few years, but a game against Arizona State could remedy some of their issues. The Ducks are 8-0 SU and 6-2 ATS in their past eight games against the Sun Devils.

If Oregon wants to make any meaningful run toward the top of the Pac-12 they need to find some consistency as the Ducks have alternated wins and losses all season long. In their wins this season Oregon has averaged 47.3 points, but have scored a mere 28.7 points in losses.

Defense has been Arizona State’s hallmark this season, especially in conference play with the Sun Devils allowing a mere 64.8 rushing yards and 2.2 yards per carry in Pac-12 action this season. However, Arizona State’s offense still needs to do their part as they have averaged a mere 16.3 points in their three losses this year.

UNC 4-1 SU and ATS All-Time vs Pitt

For a long time meetings between the North Carolina Tar Heels and the Pittsburgh Panthers were few and far between, but since Pitt joined the ACC in 2013 the two teams are quickly becoming accustomed to one another. In five all-time matchups between the two teams, UNC is 4-1 SU and ATS.

North Carolina, Pitt, and Duke are all 6-1 with an unbeaten conference record, but the Tar Heels likely have the best offense of the bunch. UNC has averaged 38 points per game behind a balanced attack, which has them ranked in the top 40 in both passing yards and rushing yards. The offense has put up some big numbers for the Tar Heels as well, topping the 40-point plateau in four of their past six games.

Pitt is coming off a historic win for the program against Syracuse last week. The Panthers had not been down in the fourth quarter and won a football game since 2009, but they were sparked by a fake punt for a first down that led to the game-winning score.

OVER is a Smart Bet for Ohio State

Ezekiel Elliott Ohio State Buckeyes

Ohio State’s high-octane offense has gotten used to topping totals with the OVER going 17-8 in their past 25 games. This season has seen the Buckeyes score 37.0 points per game and they have twice topped the 40-point plateau. Ohio State will visit Rutgers Saturday, with the Scarlet Knights coming off a massive win.

Though Ohio State looked impressive in their win over Penn State last week, the question still remains as to who will be the Buckeyes starting quarterback. Ohio State started Cardale Jones who went 9-for-15 with 84 yards, but J.T. Barrett completed all four of his passes for two touchdowns while rushing for 102 yards.

Rutgers is coming off one of the biggest comebacks of the season after scoring 28 unanswered points in the final two quarters to beat Indiana last week. There was no specific player that took over the game for the Scarlet Knights, as four different players contributed touchdowns in the huge comeback.

Worst vs First - FSU vs GT Week 8 Odds

Georgia Tech Football

Florida State has been a dominant team over the past several seasons, but that has caused inflated spreads which has helped Georgia Tech go a perfect 6-0 ATS in the last six meetings between the Seminoles and Yellow Jackets. Georgia Tech will host FSU Saturday with the hopes of not just winning ATS, but also SU.

Supporters of the Seminoles were uneasy heading into halftime with a 7-6 lead against Louisville last week, but those worries turned out to be unfounded. FSU scored 35 points in the second half to take a big win over the Cardinals. The Seminoles offense was carried by running back Dalvin Cook who rushed for 163 yards and two touchdowns despite injury concerns.

Georgia Tech has now dropped five consecutive games following last week’s loss to Pittsburgh, which ties the Yellow Jackets record for longest single-season losing skid.
