A season that started with promise has quickly come undone for the 3-2 Hokies. Following a fast start that included a 35-21 upset of Ohio State in Week 2, Virginia Tech have lost two of three SU, 0-3 ATS, and have been a betting disappointment, covering just three of their last 11.
But they face a 2-2 Tar Heels squad that has been equally disappointing, 0-4 ATS this season, following a 6-1 SU and ATS run down the stretch in 2013. North Carolina are a respectable 6-1 SU in their last seven at home, but have had little success against Virginia Tech, losing SU in eight of their last 10 head-to-head.
The Virginia Tech Hokies will try to spoil to the party on Saturday; they are 2-3 ATS against the spread this season, while the North Carolina Tar Heels are 0-4 ATS. Virginia Tech is 3-2 on the over under betting totals; North Carolina is 3-1.
