Two teams that lost to the two best teams in their respective conferences will square off in a Pac-12 versus Big Ten matchup when the Minnesota Golden Gophers meet the Washington State Cougars in the Holiday Bowl. The Cougars are listed as solid betting favorites despite dropping their last two games to the Washington Huskies and Colorado Buffaloes, who ended up playing each other in the Pac-12 championship game.

The Wolverines will have to settle for a trip to the Orange Bowl, where they'll take on the Florida State Seminoles in Miami Gardens.

Last season, the Western Michigan Broncos earned their first bowl win in school history with a 45-31 win over Middle Tennessee in the Bahamas Bowl. Just one year later, the Broncos have earned a spot in a New Year's Six bowl squaring off against the Wisconsin Badgers in the Cotton Bowl.

As of this writing, nothing was official, but Louisville and Lamar Jackson must like that trend, heading into one of the best second-tier bowl matchups of this season, a Citrus Bowl date with Louisiana State.
