Virginia Betting Odds Preview

Virginia has done the yo-yo thing in its three seasons under head coach Mike London. The Cavaliers went 4-8 in his debut in Charlottesville in 2010, then jumped to 8-5 with a bowl berth in 2011. But last year UVA fell back to 4-8.

This year the Cavaliers have plenty of returning starters and can use the products of three straight top-25 recruiting classes to fill holes and upgrade overall talent. However, they'll also have to deal with a fairly nasty schedule, so a return to a bowl is by no means a good bet.

Oklahoma State vs Mississippi State Pick

Is the best the Big 12 has to offer better than a middle-of-the-pack SEC team?

Oddsmakers certainly think so and have installed Oklahoma State as a 12 ½-point favorite over the Bulldogs in a neutral-field matchup to be played at Houston’s Reliant Stadium.

The Cowboys, picked to win the Big 12, are expected to put up huge offensive numbers once again. They averaged 45.7 points last season in coach Mike Gundy’s up-tempo, no-huddle scheme.

Mississippi State is picked to finish last in the SEC West and returns only five starters on defense. The Bulldogs have failed to cover in six straight games as underdogs away from home.

Golden Bears open as underdog vs Wildcats

Northwestern WildcatsCalifornia Golden Bears

Northwestern Wildcats vs California Golden Bears Odds

Northwestern went 12-1 against the spread last season, tied for the best single-season ATS mark of the BCS era.

Fifteen starters return from that squad, led by versatile QB Kain Colter. But regression, at least against the spread, seems likely.

Cal, however, is young and banged-up. First-year head coach Sonny Dykes has named true freshman Jared Golf as starting quarterback.

Both teams will feature versions of hurry-up, wide-open offenses, so expect a high-scoring affair. Northwestern opened as high as an 8 ½-point favorite. The line was sitting at -6 earlier in the week. The total is set at 58 ½.

The Bears are 3-8 as home underdogs over the last 10 seasons.

Boise State Broncos vs Washington Huskies Odds

A rematch of last season’s Las Vegas Bowl, the Huskies will be looking to avenge a 28-26 loss to the Broncos.

Washington is the favorite this time. With Boise State returning just nine starters, the Huskies are the more experienced team and will be playing in front of an energized crowd at newly renovated Husky Stadium.

Washington star TE Austin Seferain-Jenkins is questionable after surgery on a broken finger. He’s a major weapon for senior quarterback Keith Price, who has been interception prone throughout his career. Boise State has covered the spread in its last five games as an underdog and is 7-1 ATS as an underdog during coach Chris Petersen’s tenure.

Wyoming Cowboys vs Nebraska Cornhuskers Odds

The Nebraska Cornhuskers, who would like to put the last two games of last season behind them, begin this season when they host the Cowboys of Wyoming Saturday night in Lincoln (8 pm ET).

Big Red, which gave up 115 point in losing to Wisconsin and Georgia late last season, was an early 28-point favorite over the Cowboys, who are coming off a 4-8 campaign.

Nebraska has been good to bettors in this role, going 6-0 ATS past 6 games as chalk of 20+ points (vs Wyoming at -29).
