Knicks Love Covering at MSG vs Celtics

Isaiah Thomas Carmelo Anthony

The New York Knicks have looked like a vastly improved team this season and will host a division rival on Tuesday they’ve traditionally had success against: the Boston Celtics. New York has cashed spread bets in three of their last four against the Celtics at Madison Square Garden. The Knickerbockers are also a solid 7-3 SU and ATS in their previous 10 at home.

Shark Bites
  • The Celtics are 14-5 SU in their last 19 games against their division.
  • The total has gone OVER in six of the Knicks' last seven games after an ATS loss.
  • The Knicks are 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games with one day off between games.

The Celts are a team more often known for their defense, however it’s been the offense that has stood out as of late. Brad Stevens’ crew have scored over 100 points in 11 consecutive games heading into the tilt . As a result of that offensive explosion, the OVER has gone 7-4 during that span.

The OVER is also trending for the C’s in this spot. Boston has gone above the closing total in seven of their last nine with one day off between games. Most books opened the total for the game at 206.5.

Rockets are a Risky Play as Favorites

James Harden Chris Bosh

When sportsbooks tab the Houston Rockets as favorites, bettors are getting mixed results. Houston, who opened as a 5.5-point favorite for tonight’s clash with the Miami Heat, is a team to be wary of in this spot, as James Harden and company are a measly 4-12 ATS in their last 16 when favored by five points or more.

Shark Bites
  • The Heat are 6-16 SU and 5-16-1 ATS in their last 22 games against the Southwest Division.
  • The Rockets are 12-5 SU in their last 17 games at home.
  • The Heat are 2-5 ATS in their last seven games against the Rockets.

To say the Rockets’ defense has sprung a leak lately would be a massive understatement. In Houston’s prior three matchups, they’ve allowed an average of a whopping 120 points per game. Not great, Bob.

Totals bettors may feel a bit conflicted when handicapping this game, and it’s pretty evident why. Houston (29-21 O/U) is the best OVER team in the NBA, while the Heat (16-31 O/U) rank as the most profitable UNDER play in the Association. The UNDER has paid out in six of Miami’s last eight, with the OVER going a perfect 5-0 in the Rockets’ last five heading into the contest.

NBA: January's Best & Worst Bets

January was an eventful month in the NBA: The Cavaliers fired their coach, Blake Griffin broke his hand laying the smack down on the Clippers assistant equipment manager, and the 76ers won four games, which was more wins than they had to enter the month. Lots of things also stayed the same, as the Warriors and Spurs continued to dominate, but there were a few surprises at the betting window. Let’s take a look at the best and worst of NBA betting in January.

Thunder Cold ATS, Hot as OVER Wager

The Oklahoma City Thunder put together a great SU record in the month of January but couldn’t match that success at the betting window and really went lukewarm to close out the month. OKC backers will look for their first win at the sportsbook since January 20 when the Thunder host the Washington Wizards Monday night.

Shark Bites
  • The Wizards are 0-6 ATS in their last six games when they are an underdog of 9.5 or more.
  • The Thunder are 16-3 SU in their last 19 games against the Southeast Division.
  • The Wizards are 4-1 SU in their last five games on the road.

The Thunder, presently 9.5-point faves at online shop BetOnline, went 13-3 SU in January but went just 6-9-1 ATS over that span. To close out the month, they failed to cover the number in five straight contests, but managed a push versus the Houston Rockets in their last contest.

Totals bettors should note the OVER hitting in five-straight OKC games and with the team seemingly scoring at will, it will always be a good candidate for the OVER. The Thunder have scored triple digits in 15 of their 16 January games and have averaged 117 points in those previous five games that cashed OVER tickets. BetOnline is currently offering the total for Monday’s contest at 221 – the highest on the day’s board.

The Wizards head into Oklahoma City off a 123-122 win at the Houston Rockets Saturday. The fumbling Eastern Conference club has gone just 2-5 SU in their last seven games and are currently 2.5 games behind the Detroit Pistons for that final playoff position.

OVER has cashed in the Wizards’ previous two outings and with the team allowing opponents to score an average of 104.8 points per game (24th in the NBA), we could be in store for more offensive fireworks in Oklahoma.
