Astros Have Not Enjoyed Playing at PNC Park

The Pirates and Astros are both 3.5 games back of their respective wild-card races so every game from here on is basically a playoff game for these two clubs. Rookie Joe Musgrove fell back to earth in his last start and will look to get back on track on the road vs Ivan Nova (9-6, 4.83 ERA).

The Astros are 3-10 in their last 13 games on the road against the Pirates.
The total has gone OVER in 8 of the Pirates' last 11 games as a moneyline underdog of 111 or less.
The Astros are 5-0 against the runline in their last 5 games as road favorites.

Musgrove had his coming out party against the Blue Jays in Houston and then again in Toronto as he gave up a total of two runs to the Jays in 11.1 combined innings. In his last start against the Orioles, however, the 23-year-old gave up 11 hits, eight runs and three home runs over 5.1 innings.

The Pirates have won all three starts that Nova has made for them since being traded from the Yankees. He is yet to throw more than 82 pitches in an outing since joining the Bucs and is lucky to not yet have a loss on his record with his new club.

Pittsburgh has four-straight games but has been great of late after losing at home. In their last 11 games, they have won eight times after losing at PNC Park.

Baseball’s Best and Worst Runline Bets

Want to make more money betting baseball? Easy, just start making runline bets. Well, maybe it’s not that easy because you still have to make the right pick, but there’s a handful of teams you should be targeting in runline betting as well as a few teams to stay away from.

Yankees, Mariners Have a Penchant for Going UNDER

The New York Yankees just can’t seem to crack the .500 mark, but they’ll have another opportunity to even their record against the Seattle Mariners on Monday.

Shark Bites
  • The Yankees are 8-0 SU in their last eight games on the road against the Mariners.
  • The total has gone UNDER in the Yankees' last four games on the road.
  • The total has gone UNDER in four of the Mariners' last five games against teams with winning records.

Michael Pineda and Cody Martin are slated to take the mound. Pineda (6-10, 4.89 ERA) has struggled away from Yankee Stadium, posting a 2-6 mark with a 5.11 ERA on the year. The right-hander has split a pair of decisions against Seattle in his career.

Martin (1-2, 3.14) has kept the ball in the park in his six outings in 2016, which is extra impressive considering he surrendered eight homers over 30 2/3 combined innings with Oakland and Atlanta last year.

UNDER bettors love seeing these teams collide. In the last seven games between the Yanks and M's, the UNDER is 6-1.

Back-to-Back Wins are Rare for Padres

The Chicago Cubs are still the favorites to win their first World Series since 1908, but they haven’t resembled their former selves lately. The Cubbies continue their nine-game road trip against the San Diego Padres on Monday.

Shark Bites
  • The visiting team is 4-1 SU in its last five games in this matchup.
  • The Cubs are 8-2 SU in their last 10 games after a loss.
  • The total has gone OVER in nine of the Cubs' last 11 games on the road with Jon Lester as the starting pitcher.

Jon Lester and Edwin Jackson will get the ball for the Cubs and Padres, respectively. Lester (13-4, 2.86 ERA) is 1-1 with a 3.44 ERA in three starts against the Padres after an 8-7 victory on May 10.

Jackson (3-3, 5.36) allowed nine hits and a season-high eight runs in four innings of a 15-1 loss at Tampa Bay last Tuesday. The 32-year-old was 16-34 with a 5.37 ERA in 82 games with Chicago from 13-15, and is 3-2 with a 5.20 ERA in six outings with San Diego this year.

Stringing together wins has been a tall order for San Diego lately. In the Padres' last 12 games after a win, they're 1-11.

Red-Hot Rays Look To Keep It Going Against BoSox

Don’t look now, but the lowly Tampa Bay Rays have actually been playing good baseball recently. The Rays are 6-1 SU and against the runline in their past seven games while averaging 7.8 runs per game in that span. The Rays kick off a four-game set with the Boston Red Sox Monday.

  • David Price is 0-3 with a 3.98 ERA as a visitor at Tropicana Field.
  • The Red Sox have won the past three games against the Rays.
  • The OVER is 5-2 in the Red Sox and Rays past seven games at Tropicana Field.

Blake Snell has been incredibly consistent for the Rays, as he has not allowed more than two earned runs in his past seven starts. That span has seen Snell post a 2.50 ERA while only surrendering seven extra-base hits.

David Price takes the bump for the Red Sox coming off back-to-back quality starts. Price has allowed a combined four earned runs in his past two starts but has surrendered 14 hits as well.

Astros Struggling When Visiting PNC Park

The Houston Astros kick off a three-game set with the Pittsburgh Pirates in the Steel City Monday, which could cause problems for the ‘Stros. Houston is just 2-10 in their past 12 games at PNC Park.

  • Jose Altuve is hitting .424 on the road this season.
  • The Astros are 21-9 in their past 30 games against the NL.
  • The Pirates have won each of Jameson Taillon’s past five starts.

Doug Fister will look to bounce back from some poor showings when he takes to the bump for the Astros. Fister has allowed a combined 15 hits and nine runs in his past two starts – while only lasting four innings in his last outing.

Jameson Taillon has been a sparkplug for the Pirates’ rotation, but he has been especially stellar recently. Taillon has a 1.80 ERA while holding opponents to a .205 batting average in his past three starts.

Dodgers Red Hot Against Cincinnati

Despite being on a bit of a slump the last couple weeks, the Dodgers have held on to first place in the NL West in part, due to the Giants 11-23 record since the all-star break. LA will send Scott Kazmir (10-6, 4.41 ERA) out tonight in hopes of extending their division lead as they face Homer Bailey (2-1, 3.66 ERA) and the Cincinnati Reds.

The Dodgers are 10-2 SU in their last 12 games against the Reds.
The Reds are 11-2 SU in their last 13 games after a loss.
The total has gone UNDER in 9 of the Reds' last 10 games with Bailey as the starting pitcher.

Since being lifted from the DL, Homer Bailey has had a tough time posting quality starts as he has not gone deep in games. He only has one start at home so far since being taken off the shelf but limited the Marlins to just one earned run in five innings in that game. In Bailey’s last three starts against the Dodgers, he has posted a 2.57 ERA with a 1-1 record.

Kazmir earned a win his last time out after posting three straight losses. He has pitched well against the Reds this year, earning a 1.50 ERA over his two starts against Cincinnati. That being said, Kazmir has been awful in games played during the day. Through his five games in the sun, the Dodgers lefty has a 6.48 ERA.
